Changes to the police service

On Thursday Councillor Alison Evison met with the Chief of Scotland’s new national police force, Stephen House. The new Police Service of Scotland will come into place on April 1. After that, Grampian Police, which was formed in 1975, will no longer exist.

Councillor Evison questioned what effect this will have on the local organisations, such as the Grampian Regional Equality Council, which have received financial support from the local police.

“The future of this funding seems very uncertain, even though Grampian Police have found benefits from supporting such groups in the community,” commented Councillor Evison. “It is also unclear what will happen to the Grampian Police Community Initiative Fund which has given financial support to small groups such as play park committees in the area. “
