A LOCAL man who braved the North Sea in little more than a ‘mankini’ on New Years Day to raise money for charity has decided to set himself another fundraising challenge.

Kenneth MacLeod (40), who lives in Stonehaven, took part in the Nip and Dip at Stonehaven Harbour on behalf of CLIC Sargent on January 1 and managed to raise £350.

But he was so impressed with the charity that he felt compelled to continue fundraising.

Kenneth said: “I am so moved by the level of effort that CLIC Sargent put in to their good work that I have decided to run the Loch Ness Marathon for CLIC Sargent on September 29 this year. I am running the Loch Ness marathon because I want to do something meaningful to help children who are really sick and CLIC Sargent do so much to support these children and their families.”

CLIC Sargent (www.clicsargent.org.uk ) is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. The charity provides clinical, practical and emotional support to help cope with cancer and get the most out of life.

He added: “I used to be quite a fit chap, having played professional-level football for a number of years, but I have never ran even half-marathon distance before, so this will be quite some challenge for me. I have entered in to a running plan which involves running the Edinburgh half-marathon late May 2013.

“My goal is to raise at least £400 so I would like to ask the kind people of Kincardineshire and Mearns to give anything they can towards this good cause in order to reach my target, there is no suggested or minimum donation and every pound received will be well used.”

Kenneth has set up a JustGiving page through which people can sponsor him, which can be found at www.justgiving.com/Kenneth-MacLeod-Loch-Ness-Marathon-2013.

Kenneth is also looking for local businesses to donate a voucher, service or product that can be used as a prize for sponsors whose guess is closest to Kenneth’s finish time. He can be contacted at kennethmacleod1972@yahoo.co.uk to discuss potential prizes.
