Aberdeen actress and singer Amy Lennox is to return to her home city – to take the lead in an award-winning blockbuster musical.
For she will play the role of leading lady ‘Elle’ in Legally Blonde the Musical, which begins a two-week run at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday, May 22.
The former Aberdeen Grammar School pupil played ‘Margot’ in the original West End cast of the show and was Sheridan Smith’s understudy for the role of ‘Elle’ – performing the lead several times and winning acclaim in the national press.
Her previous roles included playing ‘Liesl’, the eldest daughter of the Von Trapp family, in the London West End musical The Sound of Music alongside Connie Fisher at the London Palladium.
Said Amy: “I am over the moon to be playing Elle Woods again and especially in my home town. It’s always an absolute treat performing at His Majesty’s Theatre and I can’t wait to see all my friends and family and share this incredible show with them.”
Winner of seven major awards including the coveted Olivier Award for Best Musical 2011, this all singing, all dancing romantic comedy is about knowing who you are and showing what you’ve got!
Elle Woods can handle anything. So when her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her she decides to follow him to Harvard Law School and win him back. With some help from new-found friends Paulette, Emmett and her Chihuahua Bruiser, she learns that it’s so much better to be smart.
The cast also includes the previously announced Les Dennis in the role of ‘Professor Callahan’ (TV’s Life’s Too Short, Extras, Family Fortunes, Empire pantomimes inc Cinderella, Peter Pan, Aladdin, UK tours of Hairspray, High School Musical 2) with Ray Quinn as ‘Warner’ (Brookside, X Factor finalist, Dancing on Ice winner and star of Dirty Dancing in the West End and Grease in the West End and on tour in Liverpool).
Directed by Tony and Olivier Award winning Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray), Legally Blonde the Musical is the funniest and most fabulous musical around. The best show in town, case closed.
