Dirty Dancing’s ‘thank you’

After a sensational opening week at His Majesty’s Theatre, Dirty Dancing is planning a special thank you for their Aberdeen fans.

For the first time ever on the record breaking tour, they are to stage a mid-week matinee of the iconic show at 2.30pm on Wednesday, March 28, to meet the overwhelming demand for tickets for the musical, which is now the highest selling show of all time at the theatre.

Tickets for the newly-announced performance went on sale on Tuesday online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.

Dirty Dancing producer Karl Sydow said: “We have been overwhelmed by the reaction from the Aberdeen audience, and are delighted to be able to offer even more fans the chance to experience this classic love story live on stage.

“We’re sure that the demand for this extra performance will be incredible, so book now and don’t miss out!”

“We have been bowled over by the warmth of the response by the public,” added Ben Torrie, head of programming for Aberdeen Performing Arts which operates HMT.

“We are delighted the Dirty Dancing company have decided to add an extra show to an already pretty hectic schedule, to give more people the chance to catch this fabulous production.”

The critically-acclaimed show opened last week to rave reviews and delighted audiences treated to The Time of Their Lives by a hugely energetic and talented cast.

The worldwide phenomenon has broken HMT Box Office records as their fastest-selling and highest-grossing show of all time, notching up £1.5million in ticket sales.

Headlining this first-ever national tour of Dirty Dancing as one of the most iconic couples in cinematic and theatre history, made famous around the world in the 1987 smash hit movie, are Paul-Michael Jones as Johnny Castle – played in the film by the legendary Patrick Swayze – and Emily Holt as the watermelon carrying idealistic Baby, who discovers love and life in the summer she will never forget.
