And the first Scottish date on the tour will be at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, when the show, produced by Michael Harrison, will run from Tuesday, to Saturday, April 3 to 7 2012.

Tickets for the city performances go on sale to APA Friends on Thursday, August 4, and to the general public the following Thursday online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.

Susan Boyle resonated around the world when she stepped on to the Britain’s Got Talent stage and tore up the rule book. She confounded the judges, the audience and over 300 million with access to YouTube who watched her dazzling performance of I Dreamed a Dream.

Two albums later she has smashed multiple music records, sold over 14 million albums and continues to enchant the world with every chapter of her journey.

Star of the past three recording-breaking Christmas pantos at HMT, Elaine C Smith said: “Susan and I first met following a remark Susan made during a press interview regarding who she would like to see play her in a movie about her life. She mentioned me and I was both flattered and amused by this.

“Knowing how Hollywood works, I realised that I didn’t have much chance of ever playing that role. When I mentioned this to Michael Harrison, a great friend and west end producer, we started thinking about the possibility of a stage show about Susan’s life, as much of what is written does not give that accurate a picture of who Susan really is.

“By happy coincidence, I was then asked to read Susan’s autobiography for the audio version of her book which gave me a great opportunity to get to know her.

“I now know Susan personally, so I am delighted that she approves of the whole idea of the stage show. She has been involved with the project from the start of the process and will also be involved in every aspect of the production as it comes to fruition.

“I am both excited and a bit daunted by the whole thing but hope to do my best in honouring Susan’s life and work.”

Michael Harrison said: “Susan Boyle is an inspiring woman and her story is an excellent one to tell - someone with a raw talent who surprises the world and overturns all the odds to make a new life for herself.

“It’s got all the qualities of a fairytale, but with the added bonus of being absolutely true. I am looking forward to the tour very much.”

“I am happy that the musical is being produced,” said Susan Boyle. “I never thought my life story would end up on the stage but a lot has happened in two years and it is a very exciting prospect. I hope everyone enjoys the show and I promise there will be a few surprises along the way.”

I Dreamed a Dream © will open at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal on Friday, March 23 before going on tour.
