A celebratory visit took place at last week’s meeting of Portlethen & District Rotary Club in the Newton Arms in Newtonhill.

President of Stonehaven Rotary Club Peter O’Dowd, Past President Peter Newel and Senior vice-President Frank Budd turned up with a present for Moira Hogg, the Portlethen & District club’s senior vice-president.

Stonehaven was the “Mother Club” to the Portlethen & District Club 20 years ago when it was founded at the Hillside Hotel in Portlethen.

As part of this year’s 20th anniversary celebration, the Stoney club presented Moira with a brand new senior vice-president’s neck jewel. This is the official insignia of the person bearing that office within the club.

The Stonehaven members enjoyed their visit to the Newton Arms and at the same time informed the club members of their current initiative to purchase bricks at £2 per piece in order to complete £500,000 fundraising required for Stonehaven’s new kidney dialysis unit.

It is hoped to achieve this by November in order for the project to go ahead and roughly £80,000 is still needed to accomplish this.

The Portlethen and District members are to discuss ways of assisting their Mother Club in the venture.
