A surprise was in store last week for Rotarian Ian Wolkoff during a visit to the Portlethen & District Rotary Club by District Governor Keith Hopkins. Ian is long time Secretary and a Past President of Portlethen & District Club having been a member for almost 20 years. Ian was the first member of the Club to come from Cove which is the northern limit of the Portlethen Club’s catchment area.
A citation for the award was read out by fellow Rotarian, Past President and local farmer Donald Robertson of Logie Farm Stonehaven.
He praised Ian for his dedication to the Club and also his wider interest for the community through his life long involvement in the Scout Movement. He has acted for the last five years as Assistant Scout Regional Commissioner for Training and still acts as a Group Scout Leader. In addition to his Rotary award Ian can boast the prestigious Scout Association Silver Acorn & Bar.
He is only the third member of the local Rotary Club in twenty years to be awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship, which is named after Paul Harris, the man who founded Rotary International over 100 years ago.
