Derek (54), an engineer who was brought up in Hillside, spotted the Wellhill land for sale with T Duncan & Co and instantly fell in love with its position and its countryside views towards the town.

So he set about building his own home there, with a luxury man cave in the grounds of Kirkhill House for good measure!

Derek said: “It’s a lovely spot, with nothing overlooking you but still close enough to Montrose so you don’t feel isolated.

“My favourite part of the house is my man cave – a summer house in the garden with a bar and juke box.
