Woodend Barn to host AIYF

Woodend Barn Arts Centre in Banchory will once again host performances as part of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, one of the world’s most vibrant celebrations of youth arts. This year sees the festival and Woodend Barn celebrate their 40th and 20th anniversaries respectively.

Japan’s Tsukuba West Symphonia youth string orchestra will perform on Thursday 2 August, featuring talented students from 5 to 18 years old. The orchestra gives annual performances and tours across Japan and abroad.

On Monday 6 August, Ireland’s Shawbrook Dance Company and the USA’s Westlake School for the Performing Arts will present an international evening of dance. The Shawbrook Dance School provides training in the disciplines of classical, contemporary, ballet and jazz, and the award-winning Westlake School displays a diversity of repertoire reflecting the make-up of the performers.

It is the 50th anniversary year for the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus, who will present a showcase of Filipino artistry in music and dance on Tuesday 7 August. The chorus will also host a singing workshop at 10.30am, open to all ages and with no prior experience required – tickets are available from Woodend Barn.

On Wednesday 8 August, a North West African group will present an Evening of African Music, Song and Dance, featuring vibrant storytelling through dance, drumming and song.
