Stonehaven Town Partnership has succeeded in accessing a Coastal Community Fund grant for a number of upcoming projects.

The funds for STP, totalling £206,209, will be utilised to take forward a number of key initiatives, including the ‘Land Train (pictured inset).’ It will also provide initial funding for a project development manager to be employed by STP to ensure effective implementation and cohesive management of all future projects, such as proposed developments in the harbour area.

The success of STP’s grant application was announced last Friday by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, who made the announcement on behalf of the Coastal Communities Fund awards panel.

When asked for a comment, Douglas Samways, STP’s chairman replied: “This grant award will help ensure that a number of our key projects can now be completed and we can identify and appoint a suitably qualified manager, as this will greatly increase our ability to deliver innovative projects for the benefit of Stonehaven and its population.

“The funding will be used to enhance our ability to ensure that Stonehaven retains its vitality and remains a vibrant, forward-looking community.

‘‘I would particularly like to thank Lindsay Verstralen for her hard work throughout the grant application process.”

The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) aims to encourage the economic development of UK coastal communities by awarding funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. Since its inception in 2012, the CCF has awarded grants to 104 organisations across the UK to the value of £53.6 million.

This funding is forecast to deliver 7655 jobs and help attract around £90 million of additional funds to coastal areas.

The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the CCF on behalf of UK Government and the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
