AUCHENBLAE Cub Scouts are being reformed after a six year hiatus thanks to the efforts of the local community.
The Auchenblae scouts, cubs and beavers had to be closed down in 2004 due to lack of adult volunteers willing to be leaders.
But new cub leader Denise Bird decided to take over after finding there was a six month waiting list for joining the Lauren
cekirk group.
Mrs Bird said: "I wanted to put my son to the Laurencekirk beavers but the waiting list was huge. There isn't a lot of activities for young boys in the area and the Scout Commissioner said I could always start a group myself."
Mrs Bird expressed her delight at the community spirit that helped get the cubs up and running again.
"We called a community meeting and the turnout was really good. The community around Auchenblae are excellent and they all rallied together. We have enough parent helpers and leaders for starting cubs, beavers and scouts."
The cubs is for boys and girls aged 8 – 11 and the beavers, which they hope to start after Easter, is for children aged 6 - 8. A recruitment night for all clubs took place on Monday night and there will be a second recruitment night on Monday February 1 for anyone who wishes to find out more and register.
"These clubs give children a chance to excel in so many different things and everybody can be good at something. It gives the kids a lot of confidence and teaches them responsibility because they get to do things they maybe wouldn't normally do at their age, like cooking and camping. It also looks fantastic on their CV's," added Mrs Bird.
The first cub meet takes place on Monday February 8 in the Auchenblae Village Hall.

Meanwhile, the Portlethen Cubs have been making some progress in the right direction.
It has been an uncertain few months for the scout group who have been facing closure due to a lack of volunteers. But after a meeting last Thursday night cub leader Brian Black said that the outlook was promising.
He said: "The meeting went quite well and we had a reasonable turnout. There was one new person who offered to help. We hope we can get the ball rolling soon and, all being well, can resume the club in two or three weeks time."
Those who have offered to help will be taking part in a training session to see if they want to continue. If they do, the leaders hope to have the club in operation by the middle of February.
However he stressed that there is always need for more volunteers to join in, saying: "we are always willing for offers of new people who want to join the fun and mayhem of the cubs!"
