A STONEHAVEN couple who have spent their entire lives in the Mearns are this week celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Donald and Mary McInnes of Queens Gardens reached the landmark occasion of their diamond wedding anniversary on Wednesday.
Their wedding took place on April 30 1948 in Stonehaven's Alexandra Hotel, with Reverend John Campbell presiding.
Typically
for the time, the couple first met at the popular dances in Stonehaven Town Hall.
Throughout their married life, Mr McInnes was employed in the agricultural industry.
Firstly he worked on different farms for quarter of a century, before changing profession and selling machinery to farmers.
As a result of his job, the couple relocated to Laurencekirk for 31 years, before making the move to their current Stonehaven home in 1999.
Mrs McInnes was on the payroll at the former Stonehaven Net Factory.
She would become mother to six children, five of which remain in Scotland while Ishbel lives in America.
Bervie resident Shona stays closest to her parents, while her siblings are located in Aberdeen and Perth.
All in all Mr and Mrs McInnes have 13 grandchildren.
Both are particularly green fingered, spending much of their time getting their hands dirty in their back garden, which is home to a range of colourful flowers.
Mr McInnes is also a keen joiner and still enjoys working with wood.
The couple agreed that sharing is the key to a long and successful marriage.
"There has to be some give and take, you have to share and share alike", said Mr McInnes. He then jokingly added: "There is only one person right in an argument."
This Saturday Mr and Mrs McInnes will be joined by their family in a celebration at the Heugh Hotel.
