THE family of a Gourdon motorcyclist killed in an accident near Catterline last Friday have spoken of their "devastating loss".
Andrew McFarlane, 34, died at the scene of the crash, on the A92 near Mill of Uras.
The oil industry worker, who moved to the village almost a year ago, was due to become a father for the first time in late August.
He celebrated his first wedding anniversary with wife Heather, who he met 14 years ago, just last month and was said
to have been "excitedly awaiting" the arrival of their son.
In a statement released through Grampian Police, she described Mr McFarlane, known to most as Andy, as "an amazingly devoted husband" and said the family were "completely devastated by this tragic loss".
Mr McFarlane, a mechanical engineering graduate of Robert Gordon University, was travelling south along the A92 on Friday when his blue Suzuki 1200 Bandit motorbike was in collision with a red Rover 600 car.
He received attention from paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured.
Both vehicles had been travelling south prior to the accident but the force of the impact left them facing in opposite directions.
The road was closed for approximately seven hours while a collision investigation examination was carried out. Local diversions were put in place.
Although Mr McFarlane had been in Gourdon for just a short time, he spoke out at a public meeting on June 2, expressing his concern about over-expansion of the village.
He said he had been attracted there because it was small and quiet and the kind of place he wanted to bring up a family.
Mr McFarlane had travelled extensively during his 12-year career in the north-east oil industry, which had taken him to Africa and Australia.
In their statement the family said: "Andrew McFarlane, known to most as Andy, was an amazingly devoted husband to his wife Heather, whom he met almost 14 years ago, and married at Stirling Castle on May 24, 2008.
"He was also excitedly awaiting the arrival of his first child, a son, due in late August.
"The family is completely devastated by this tragic loss."
