A STONEHAVEN hairdresser is hanging up his scissors after 41 years in the business.
Donald Mitchell first opened the doors to his HairCare salon on Barclay Street on July 5, 1967.
Mr Mitchell says that he has seen a great many changes throughout the years, and many hairstyles have come and gone.
He insists that the secret to a l
ong lasting and successful career is down to old-fashioned hard work.
He said: "You just have to work reasonably hard. The important thing is to have a good staff behind you, and to keep the customers happy."
Mr Mitchell plans to keep his options open now that his days won't be taken up with cutting hair, insisting that he is uncomfortable with the word "retirement."
He said: "I have no plans for this stage. I'm just going to have a break from it all. It might be that I don't end up going back to it, but at the moment I'm just having a break from hairdressing. I'm not sure about the word 'retire' so I won't say I'm retiring just yet."
Ownership of HairCare passed over to local couple, Mr and Mrs Hunter, who currently run 'Images', on Thursday of this week, and Mr Mitchell wishes them the best of luck and success as they step into his shoes.
"I have to admit there is a certain sadness about leaving, but I am happy to see the business remain as a hairdresser. All of the staff will still be here for the customers who continue to support us. HairCare will still be here and I'm glad about that."
