THE third annual Kevin's Day was held on Sunday at the Mackie Academy playing fields and proved to be the best yet.
Kevin's Day was begun by Stonehaven woman Carol Humphreys as a tribute to her son Kevin who died in 2001 aged 15 after a brave battle against leukaemia.

An estimated 1,700 people attended in glorious sunshine and the generosity of everyone involv
ed will see almost £7,000 shared between CLIC Sargent and the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Carol said: "The weather was superb and it was great to see people sitting out on their rugs just chilling and listening to the bands.
"It was the sort of day when you could do something energetic if you wanted to or just relax.

"I have already banked £3,500 and there could be around £3,000 more to come from the Its a Knockout teams.

"We are supporting CLIC Sargent and Anthony Nolan. The CLIC Sargent money will go to Prestwick House near Ayr which helps children with cancer and their families and is a wonderful facility.

"Kevin's Day has grown and grown since it first started. I had so many people come up to me on Sunday looking to confirm that I would be doing it again.

"Graham Fisher's International Its a Knockout were fantastic and I have booked them again for the last Sunday in June next year.

"The Golden Lions parachute team were amazing and the Its a Knockout stopped to let everyone watch them come in.

"The dog agility demonstration was very popular as were all the bands that performed.

"All the stalls, bouncy castles etc had a great day and they all contributed to the money raised."

Proceedings kicked off at 10am with Ellie Deejays, followed by The Dezibels, street drummers from Aberdeen who also gave drumming workshops to children.

First of the bands on stage were Standby from Johnshaven who have an average age of just 12. Other bands performing were Loki, and The Vizzitors.

Nine teams took part in the Its a Knockout and Kevin's Day also featured 10k and 1k races and a Teddy Toddle.

Carol added: "It was hard work but it was all worthwhile.

"I am determined to do it again but I am going to need some help as the event is getting too big for just myself and my family.

"What I'd like is a committee or maybe six or eight people to be set up to run the event. So many people had so much fun on Sunday and most importantly we raised money for charity."
