A community group have revealed that they are launching a bid to see the popular Portlethen Swimming Pool extended.
Kincardine Development Partnership (KDP) have applied for European government funding to build the extension, which would see an additional training pool added to the existing one, built 25 years ago.
Paul Melling, Portlethen Community Council’s KMAP representative, said: “Before the new Portlethen Academy was built there were two options available.
“One was extending the former academy and the pool could have potentially been extended too. The other was for a brand new state-of-the-art school, which we now know was given the go-ahead.
“It has always been a desire of mine to see the new pool extended, and to build a new training pool, to get youngsters in for lessons while other members of the public can still use the existing one.”
Mr Melling made the announcement at last week’s meeting of Portlethen and District Community Council.
The meeting also heard that two further projects, the Portlethen Men’s Shed and the refurbishment of the Jubilee Hall had also applied for funding, and all three were waiting to hear if they meet the criteria and would be granted funding.
