A new drug and alcohol peer support group was launched in Stonehaven last weekend, and people are being encouraged to come along to the weekly meetings.
ShARE started out in September 2013 when eight friends, who were recovering from alcohol and drug addiction, started meeting in each other’s homes once a week. Recovery from addiction can be lonely as there is a lack of things to do and safe places to go to meet like-minded people. Having support to overcome addiction is important and the founding members felt that others might benefit from the opportunity to come together and make friends to others. ShARE stands for “Shire Addiction Recovery Enterprise”. The ShARE group have finally found a permanent home and will meet at the Invercarron Resource Centre every Sunday from 11am–3pm. There are currently no peer-led addiction support groups in South Aberdeenshire so ShARE will fill a longstanding need. The group aim to provide positive and regular peer support and to offer understanding, encouragement and friendship to anyone whose life has been affected by addiction. Everyone welcome, refreshments available.
