German supermarket giants Aldi have this week distanced themselves from a ‘misleading’ job advert for a store in Stonehaven.
The recruitment ad, which was for a store assistant, appeared on a local job search website last week.
With Aldi not having a store in Stonehaven rumour quickly spread that a site could soon be developed in the town.
However, James Harbison - who is involved with Aldi’s planning and projects team, told The Mearns Leader that the advert was “misleading.”
He said: “Aldi does not have a site in Stonehaven so I am afraid this online recruitment is misleading.
“The recruitment information is not on Aldi’s website, www.aldi.co.uk, although Aldi is aware of the situation.
“As with many towns in Scotland, Aldi would like a store to serve south Aberdeen and Stonehaven and continues the search to find a suitable site.
“It is not the first time something like this has happened and we find that in rural areas adverts like this can spring up out of nowhere.
“It’s not to say Aldi isn’t interested in opening a store in the South of Aberdeenshire.”
