Three cycling enthusiasts have raised over a thousand pounds for charity by taking on a gruelling feat.

James Forbes, Allan Dickson and Stephen Campbell, from Laurencekirk and Montrose, raised over £1100 for Alzheimer Scotland.

hat was chosen as it is Scotmid’s -whom James works for - chosen charity of the year.

The final amount is still to be set as donations are still coming in.

The trio raised the cash by cycling 200 miles in a single day.

Starting in Laurencekirk, they headed north to Stonehaven, then northwest to Banchory.

From there they headed south via Ballater towards Blairgowrie before heading back home to Laurencekirk through Forfar and Montrose.

They finished the feat in 14.5 hours, well within their initial target of taking between 14-16 hours to complete it.

For James, almost 13 hours of that was ‘in the saddle’.

James said: “I thought it would be good to raise some money for this cause and I feel it’s a great cause and one we could all have some contact with during our lives.”
