Police are appealing for information following vandalism and theft at the old Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk.

Police Scotland is investigating vandalism and theft which occurred at the old Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk.

The damage and theft occurred between 5pm on Friday, September 9, and 9am on Monday, September 12, where a number of windows were smashed and building equipment was stolen from within. The value of the items stolen is estimated to be worth a mid three figure sum of money.

PC Joe Smith who is the enquiry officers says: "The academy is currently being stripped out in preparation for demolition and specialist contactors are currently removing hazardous materials from within.

"I would stress that individuals are putting themselves at risk by entering the building.

"Among the items stolen was a specialist face mask manufactured by Sundstron, which is yellow in colour. I would urge anyone who has information regarding the damage and theft to contact the Police."
