Director of the Elsick Company, Lord SouthEsk has said that the approval of the local development plan in “extremely positive news”.
Speaking following Aberdeenshire Council’s meeting on Thursday (April 26) he said: “The approval of the Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan by Aberdeenshire Council is extremely positive news for Chapelton and enables EDC to continue with the work needed to bring our plans into action.
Following a series of meetings with house builders, housing associations, Council departments, other stakeholders and the public, we have refined our plans and they will be submitted as part of our Further Information Report in support of our planning applications later this year.”
Previously EDC has said they hope to begin development on the £1billion town early next year. The company submitted two applications in September last year -an application for 4000 homes and a detailed application for 800 homes – and started the public consultation discussions.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council voted 54-6 in favour of adopting a new local development plan, which outlines where 20,000 homes will be built across the region, at a meeting on Thursday.
Scottish Ministers now have until June 1 if they wish to call in the local development plan.
