A Christmas mystery has been unfolding in Stonehaven this week, as small stones that have had a baby Jesus painted on them have been appearing all over town - including one at the Mearns Leader office.
One of the small pebbles was posted through the letterbox of the Leader office on Ann Street on Monday night and found by staff on Tuesday morning, but before long, it emerged that other businesses had been given the festive token as well.
Local shop, My Beautiful Caravan, reported that they had a tiny baby Jesus in their shop, and after the Leader shared the news on Facebook on Wednesday, it emerged that they had also popped up at Stonehaven beach, Arduthie School, Kirkton Garden Centre, the Station Hotel, Kirkton Vets, and the Head Shed.
The charming gifts have struck a chord with many in the town, and have put a smile on the faces of those who have found them.
Stonehaven resident Gwynne Stewart claimed responsibility for the gifts on the My Beautiful Caravan Facebook page, commenting: “Just a little something to make you smile and to spread a little love around at Christmas.
“A reminder of the reason for the season. God sent His son to us. Merry Christmas! They were made at Church so keep your eyes open for many more appearing in the town.”
