The growing season kicks off in Fettercairn with a Big Dig at the Community Allotment next weekend. The allotment group is calling for as many locals as possible to come along and help lick the allotment into shape.
The allotment is opposite Fettercairn Primary School and has become overgrown in recent years. However, it has great potential to be a place where people can come together, have fun, grow fruit and vegetables and get to know each other. Jobs for the weekend include creating raised beds, levelling and paving areas for a tool shed and bench, weeding around fruit trees, planting soft fruit bushes, and just plain digging.
Everyone is welcome to come along for any length of time between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March. No experience is necessary, but participants should bring boots, gloves, a spade if they have one and a picnic lunch. Further details are available by phoning Sue Barrie on 01561 340673.
