Big turnout for Big Sing

As hosts of the Big Sing Stonehaven Folk Festival Workshop, the Mearns’ own Burns Quoir was delighted with the splendid turnout for the event, with over 45 attending on Day one (Saturday) and over 30 on Day two (Sunday) at the Beach Pavilion.

participants came from all the airts – Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Montrose, Motherwell, London, South Africa, the Netherlands as well as Stonehaven itself, Laurencekirk and Arbuthnott.

The Workshops were energetically and expertly led by acclaimed folk singer, Christine Kydd.

Participants sang enthusiastically and happily throughout various chants and rounds sea shanties and folk songs, relishing the opportunity to sing with a big choir and in three-part harmony as devised by Christine.

The Final performance by the workhoppers at the Cowie Fringe element of the Folk Festival where local musicians as well as workshop participants contributed, was the crowning success for this innovative venture, fulflling the aim to involve the public even more fully in singing during the Folk Festival.
