Business Club AGM

The Laurencekirk Business Club (LBC) held their AGM in the warm and very comfortable new restaurant in Laurencekrik, Hugo’s, on Wednesday January 30.

There was a great turn out of local members and the evening was dedicated to establishing the new committee who will act on behalf of the club in the year ahead.

The meeting started with a comprehensive review presented by Lynne Moir (Mearns Webb) regarding the previous year 2012 for the LBC, and she highlighted the achievements of the club regarding the excellent guest speakers that had talked at the monthly meetings.

She also discussed the success of the social events organized by the club throughout the year, especially focusing on the Diamond Jubilee Dance whereby the LBC joined forces with the Ladies Social Club to hold a very lively and fun event in the St Laurence Hall which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved.

A well attended recruitment evening held in October reinforced the gradual growth of the club, which hosted a relaxed but proactive cheese and wine evening in the Masonic Hall encouraging new members to join and current members to remain involved within the club. For the start of 2013 there are 25 businesses remaining in the club with new businesses planning to join, so the year ahead looks very promising.

Linda Farquarson who co-runs Hugo’s, was voted in as the clubs new chairperson, Fiona Moore (Enviro surveying ltd) is the new vice-chair, Lynn Jones (Dizzy Rascals) is the clubs treasurer and Lynne Moir (MW) and Donna Allan (Impact Imaging) are sharing the role of the club secretary.

Once the new roles were established, there was a lot of shared discussion for the clubs plans for events in the year ahead.

Some of the exciting plans for the year ahead include a possible outdoor Easter Fair and there is a National ‘Independence Day’ event that is being held to promote local businesses on July 4 so a promotion may be organized around this within the village.

The LBC are hoping their main event of the year will be to host an organized Firework/Bonfire event with a spectacular firework display in the village. Plans are currently ongoing to make this event possible in November.

Andrew Ogilvie (Mearns Hardware) discussed the Marykirk Raft Race Dance that’s being held on Saturday March 2 with dancing to a rock ‘n’ roll/blues band. Tickets are on sale at the hardware store at a price of £10 and all proceeds are going to charities. It should be a great night.

The next meeting is to be held on Monday, February 25, at 7pm in Hugo’s again with new members Beckley Kenny & Co Solicitors and Estate Agents providing a talk about their services. All are welcome to join.
