BUSINESS savvy Stonehaven youngsters are preparing to come face to face with one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs.
The Mackie Academy pupils, who have made it through to the final of the Young Enterprise Grampian Awards, will battle it out with five other teams from across the region to impress Dragon’s Den judge Duncan Bannatyne.
The students, who have set up their own business ‘Aromatics’, producing hand-decorated reed scent diffusers, will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges on May 4.
The winning team will be announced on the night in front of an audience of local business people and individuals from the education sector, and will then go on to represent the region at the national finals in June.
The Mackie pupils will be competing against teams from Aberdeen Grammar School, Albyn School and Inverurie Academy.
Ian Phillips, Chairman of Young Enterprise Grampian, said; “The Young Enterprise Grampian Awards aim to recognise the achievements of young entrepreneurs from schools throughout Grampian who have set-up and run their own businesses for a year as part of the Young Enterprise programme.
“Each company was asked to write a business report detailing their experiences and a record 16 companies submitted reports. The standard of entries this year was extremely high, and it was an extremely difficult task narrowing it down to just 6 finalists - but the companies chosen stood out as they have shown a real flair for business.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to pitch their ideas to Duncan Bannatyne along with some of Aberdeen’s leading business people. As well as helping to judge the finalist teams, Duncan Bannatyne will also deliver the keynote speech at the Awards Dinner giving the audience a chance to hear about his own experiences in business.”
The awards are supported by First Oil, BP, Balmoral Group and Shell and local organisations are encouraged to attend to support the next generation of local business people.
A limited number of tables are still available for the Awards Dinner which will take place at the Marcliffe Hotel on Wednesday May 4 2011. For further information please contact the organisers, cushydoos, on 01224 651819 or visit www.cushydoos.com.
