TWO local mums have set up a slimming group in bid to raise money for charity as they shed the pounds, writes Jenny Rush.
And they are now appealing for other local residents to join their fun, informal group, get healthy for new year and help fundraise for a worthy cause.
Teresa Young and Caroline Traa are both members of the Friends of Carronhill, a group which this year announced the ambitious objective of raising £35,000 to provide the Stonehaven school with a new minibus. The current bus will soon be seven years old and is costing more and more every year for its upkeep and repair.
The determined duo decided it was the ideal opportunity to lose some weight and are keen to attract sponsorship for their efforts, as well as more members to join the group.
Caroline, who is chairwoman of the group, said: “I cannot get to a regular slimming class on an evening and I really do want to make an effort. We thought it would be quite a fun thing to do, to meet up and have a weigh in every Monday - it is good for our health and we will hopefully raise money for the minibus at the same time.
“If anyone wants to come and join us, they are more than welcome.”
Teresa added: “Because our lives are so full on with children with special needs there is no time to think about us - we cannot really plan to do things on an evening as there is no support, so we’ve got to fit them in during the day.
“This will be a fun, informal way to lose weight and do some good for the school as well.”
The ladies have set themselves a 20 week timeframe to get down to their target weights before the summer holidays, and will charge new members £1 a week to join.
A minimum weight loss target of 20 lbs has also been set, and there will be a prize for the most weight lost.
Teresa and Caroline meet every Monday morning at 10.30am at the Kirkton Garden Centre cafe, to see how their weight-loss efforts are coming along and to have a chat.
All are welcome. More details are available from the group by phoning 07514 277014 or emailing email@example.com.
