MSP Alex Johnstone and his wife, Linda, visited the Mearns Pre-School Playgroup in Fordoun, this week, to officially open the children’s garden.

Linda Johnstone, who is a past chairperson of the playgroup, cut the ribbon to the garden.

Mr Johnstone, whose children and grandchildren have all attended the playgroup, described the garden as “wonderful.” He said: “Anything related to outdoor activity which introduces the children to nature is great. It gives them a chance to get their hands dirty.”

The Mearns Pre-school playgroup holds a bronze eco-award and is now working towards getting the silver award.

The playgroup has around 22 children of different ages, and also runs a mum and toddlers group on a Monday.

On October 1, the Mearns Pre-School and playgroup are holding a tabletop salt to raise funds for the group.

Spaces are still available for the sale.
