Christmas switched on in Stonehaven

The festive season was officially kicked off in Stonehaven last Saturday, when a festive fun day and parade culminated with the Christmas light switch-on.

The land train made a reappearance, offering rides throughout the day, and there were fairground rides, facepainters and other attractions, including photo opportunities with Santa.

People of all ages took part in the The Christmas Parade which came from the Leisure Centre, along David Street and Barclay Street to the Market Square.

Many shops in the town were offering promotional discounts.

A parade from the Leisure Centre, along David Street and Allardice Street to the Market Square included the land train, Porridge the Donkey, and several other local groups and organisations, including the Stonehaven Pipe Band, Kids Act, the Stonehaven After School Club, the Stonehaven Beavers and Trybe.

The evening culminated with the Christmas light switch-on.

The tree was organised by volunteers from Stonehaven and District Community Council, and they would like to thank David Strang Steel from the Sluie Estate who donated the tree, and Bancon and W & D Murray who delivered it and put it up. Aberdeenshire Council’s Landscape Services also helped with positioning.

The lights were put up with help from Groundwater, and Santa, along with some local children, turned the lights on.

Live music was enjoyed throughout the day and the Lions Club and Rotary Club supplied refreshments including soup and mulled wine.
