Climb in memory of Kelly

A dad is going to take on the highest peaks in Scotland to raise funds for a cancer charity in memory of his fiancée who passed away from the disease last year.

Andy McDougall’s fiancée, Newtonhill woman Kelly Tawse, died on September 3 2011 from metastatic breast cancer aged 29 after being diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

Andy has decided to commemorate her life by tackling Scotland’s nine highest peaks (The Scottish 4000s, all over 4000 ft.) in the space of three days on the anniversary of her death.

Andy, who is father to 7 year old Ruaridh, will set off early in the morning on September 3, to tackle the climb. He has decided to take on the challenge without using any motorised transport. This includes the journey between the peaks - five of which are within the Cairngorms National Park and the other four are in Glen Nevis.

This will result in Andy covering a distance of 96 miles by bike, 37 miles on foot and 5,216 metres of height gain over the three days.

Andy, who is raising money for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, said: “So much planning has been put into this over the past few months and I’m really looking forward to starting it.

“CLIC Sargent supports so many families across the country, if my fundraising can help just one then it’s all been worthwhile.”

Peter Logie, CLIC Sargent’s Community Fundraiser for the north of Scotland commented, “This is an incredible challenge, even for someone who is used to tackling Munros. What happened to Kelly is tragic and we are very grateful that Andy has picked our Charity to benefit from his positive and poignant way of celebrating the life of Kelly. We wish him well and would encourage individuals and businesses to support him, to spur him on for when the going gets really tough.”

Andy has a Just giving website where supporters can give him a word of encouragement and donate to CLIC Sargent http://www.justgiving.com/Andy-McDougall or you can donate by text - simply text the code CFKT82 (Climbing For Kelly Tawse ‘82) and the amount you wish to pledge in pounds (remember the £ sign) to 70070. So if you wish to donate £10, you’d send the following: CFKT82 £10 and send it to 70070.
