Community Service Awards presented

Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club have presented four Community Service Awards, awarded annually to local residents who have given valued service to their communities over a number of years. The certificates were presented on Friday during a concert by Eddie Rose and party, held in Mearns Academy.

Awards were presented this year to local ladies, Marjorie Stewart, Cathy Fleming, Patricia Gerard and Margaret Cruickshank.

Marjorie, from Marykirk, is secretary of Mearns Community Council. She is also a member of Marykirk Hall Committee, treasurer or Marykirk WRI and treasurer of the Marykirk Lunch Club.

Cathy Fleming, Laurencekirk, is a member of the local First Response team.

She is also an active member of the Mearns Ladies Probus Club and the Laurencekirk 50 plus Group.

Patricia Gerard, from Laurencekirk is a member of the local lunch club and works with the local Befrienders. She is also known for her efforts to tackle litter in and around the town and can often fill two or three bags with litter when out on one of her regular walks.

Margaret Cruickshank, Auchenblae, recently retired after 25 years as one of the local district nurses.
