Volunteers were celebrated at the Stonehaven Community Centre

Stonehaven Community Learning celebrated volunteers at the local community centre last Tuesday by holding a strawberry tea.

The centre has more than 30 volunteers who give up their time on a regular basis, and they were celebrated for their community spirit.

Among other contributions, they work alongside staff in running a variety of activities at Mackie Academy as well as helping those who have literacy and numeracy issues on a one-to-one basis.

They also teach first aid and deliver courses on topics such as creative writing and employability for young people.

As well as enjoying their strawberry tea, some were presented with long-service awards in recognition of their many years of commitment and dedication to the community.

Leslie Murison, senior community learning worker, said at the strawberry tea: “Thank you so much.

‘‘Without your help here at the community centre it wouldn’t be here today. “

Among those awarded with certificates were: Margaret Liddell, David Gourlay, David Kennedy, Ron Clark, Anne Adams, Patricia McEachern, Robbie Murdoch, Hazel Littlewood, Ian Hunter, Sheila Goodwin and David McDonald.
