Aberdeenshire Council has received a prestigious award for its efforts to improve road safety.
The local authority’s transportation team was recognised at the National Transport Awards 2012, held in London earlier this month.
They received the top honour in the most effective road safety, traffic management and enforcement project category.
It is the first time that a Scottish local authority has won an accolade at the National Transport Awards.
Efforts to improve road safety across Aberdeenshire have shown marked results, with fatal road traffic collisions seeing a 55% drop from 22 in 2010 to 10 in 2011. The number of serious accidents also dropped in that period, from 202 to 132.
