Crime reduction

Following a number of incidents of theft from insecure and secure motor vehicles in Aberdeenshire, Grampian Police would like to issue the following advice to owners.

Lock your vehicle whenever you leave it; Do not leave spare keys within any vehicles; Remove and valuable items from within, including the boot.

Ensure no items, no matter how little they are worth, are left in view; Try and ensure your car is parked in a well-lit area; Use security devices at all times.

If you have a garage, use it every time you park your vehicle at home; If parking in a driveway, close any gates behind you and position your vehicle so it is illuminated wither by your own or street lighting; If you have a movement activated sensor on your external house light, positiion it, if possible, to activate when someone approaches your vehicle in the drive.

PC Kevin Marron of the Crime Reduction Unit says: “Aberdeenshire is a low crime area and because of this, persons behaving suspiciously tend to draw attention to themselves. Let us lock up our cars.”
