A 61-year-old man has been charged by police for assaulting an eight-year-old boy at a swimming pool in the Mearns area.
Police were called out to investigate reports of the assault at Portlethen Swimming Pool.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a 61-year-old male has been charged in connection with an assault in the Portlethen area on Tuesday, July 26.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
They added they could not say more for the time being.
Conservative councillor Carl Nelson, who represents the area, said: “I was totally shocked by the news.
“When something like this happens it is quite disturbing and I am sure it has shocked the whole of the community in Portlethen.
“Crime is generally low in Portlethen and right across North Kincardine.
“I just hope that the people going to the pool don’t get discouraged by this incident.”
And local Labour councillor Alison Evison said she was aware of the incident.
She said the police were investigating it and the case would go through the normal processes.
