A Christmas bingo night will be held tomorrow (Friday) at Stonehaven Bowling Club to raise funds for promising badminton players.
The four players from Mackie Academy, Stonehaven - Mark Leith, Matthew Duguid, Sam Muir and Jacob Reynolds - have been selected to represent Scotland at the forthcoming International School Sports Federation world games in Chinese Taipei in May 2014 (www.isfsports.org).
This is a great honour for these athletes and a just reward for their continued efforts and achievements over the past few seasons. They have already won nine national junior titles among themselves.
Funds raised will be added to proceeds from a ceilidh hosted by Mackie Academy on November 29.
The well attended event was organised to help raise cash for the four talented Mackie pupils who hope jet off to the Far East next May.
The ceilidh also helped towards a school trip to South Africa next Easter.
Jointly organised by Mrs Annette Leith and Iain Macdonald, the dance floor was filled throughout the evening with people dancing the ‘Military Two-Step’ and the popular favourite ‘Orcadian Strip the Willow,’ among others, to the live ceilidh band Country Edition. Raffles, Whisky Trails and coin competitions also took place during the evening.
The public, families, and friends were all thanked for supporting the event and pupils were praised for their participation during and in the build up as excitement grows towards departure for their unforgettable trip.
