Mackie Academy pupils have been walking the walk again and this year are very busy raising money for Cancer Research.

As well as fundraising for CRANES, the youngsters have also been stepping out on behalf school funds.

Buses left early last Friday morning (September 13) to drive pupils and teachers to the starting point of the 12km walk that saw around 1000 youngsters taking part.

In the past, the annual sponsored walk at Mackie Academy has raised almost £30,000 for local charities and school funds.

Speaking in last week’s Mackie Matters column, rector Louise Moir had noted how great it had been to see students and staff getting involved in the annual even.

Louise said: “I believe some of our students may be more visible than others as they intend to complete the course in fancy dress, while others are going to run the distance.

‘‘It does not matter how much individuals raise – it is the sum of small parts that counts.”

Taking charge of the sponsored walk was Kieran Kenny, with almost all of the children kitted out in some form of fancy dress for the occasion.

Among their number were gnomes, hippies, zombies and brightly-coloured students who all participated and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
