The Bervie Braes road, which leads into the town from Dunnottar Castle, is set to close for the winter months in two weeks time.
The road had been closed for several years owing to landslips but was re-opened in April after residents campaigned, saying that it would help attract tourists to the town, with reports suggesting that it could attract up to £9m in tourism revenue.
The £300,000 option to re-open for the summer months came with a weight limit of three tonnes, and a 20mph speed limit.
The Braes have been a big talking point with local residents over the summer, with many critical over the bright orange and white safety barriers which line the route.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said that the Braes will shut on Monday, November 4, when officials will take time to “gather data and reassess” the situation, and added that they should re-open again in the spring.
