Brigitte Matthews, the Senior Co-ordinator for Kincardine and Deeside Befriending is to cycle 370 miles through four European countries this month to raise money for the project.
Brigitte says: “I have now been in post for 15 months and seen what a difference befriending makes to an older person, and it amazes me time and time again how pleased the old people are to see their befriender. This is why I personally would like to raise money for such a worthy project.
“I will set off from Munich and will cycle to Passau on the German/Austrian border. From there I will cycle along the Danube to Vienna. After enjoying a couple of days sightseeing in Vienna, I will be off to Bratislava in Slovakia, then through to Budapest in Hungary from where I will return home.”
Funds raised will be donated to Kincardine & Deeside Befriending (registered Scottish charity no. SC032594) which aims to reduce the impact of social isolation on older people through volunteer befriending. If anyone would like to sponsor Brigitte or make a donation, they should visit www.justgiving.com/kanddbefriending or just send a cheque to K & D Befriending, 42-46 Barclay Street Stonehaven AB392FX.
