A MEARNS farm shop was named a winner recently at the Grampian Food Forum’s Innovation Awards.

Castleton Farm Shop was awarded the second prize in the award for Best New Retail Product for businesses of up to 25 employees, for it’s delicious Castleton Farm Handmade Jam.

The richness and diversity of the North-east larder was celebrated at the awards which were held last Thursday (March 21).

During the day, over 60 entries from 23 food and drink companies were sampled and assessed by the judging panel Lorna Murray, local food sourcing and technical manager for Asda and Simon Cousins, series producer of BBC Scotland’s Landward.

The Grampian Food Forum Awards, now in their 23rd year, were launched to foster the north east’s tradition of innovative food production, and to provide an arena for the area’s food and drink producers to have their new products displayed to leading names in the industry.
