Aberdeen South & North Kincardine MSP Maureen Watt has welcomed the Scottish Government’s condemnation of soaring fuel prices in response to her question in the Scottish Parliament. With the UK Government’s budget confirming that fuel duty will rise by a further 3p later this year, the household budgets of motorists across the country will again be squeezed even further.
In response to Ms Watt’s question, Finance Secretary John Swinney identified that average households in Scotland could be £400 worse off following tax and benefit changes and in relation to fuel duty said “the fact that no action was taken… will place real strains on household budgets.”
Ms Watt said: “Prices at the pump are already eye-wateringly high and are set to rise even further as the Treasury brings in yet another tax hike. The UK Government has shown a complete inability to get to grips with fuel prices.
