Portlethen Community Ambulance has been given a generous gift by a Muchalls couple who celebrated their Golden Wedding on July 29.

Ali and Vi Smith, who live at Dunnyfell Road, celebrated their Golden Wedding with friends and family on Friday August 5. Instead of gifts the guests were invited to make donations to the Portlethen Ambulance, raising £785.

Noreen Harding, Chairperson of the Ambulance Association said: “Vi and Ali Smith are proving that the community spirit in this area is second to none.

“We have been fund raising for a new minibus for the past four months and are now within sight of our target. We are confident we will be able to order a new bus in the autumn and receive delivery in March 2012.”

At a separate event on August 10, the Portlethen Young at Heart group raised £295 towards the new ambulance by organising a fish and chips lunch followed by bingo and a raffle.

Event organiser Roberta Duncan said: “I am very grateful to all those who donated raffle prizes, including our local shops and businesses as well as individuals.”
