A new dialysis unit for the Kincardine Community Hospital has received a welcome financial boost from Stonehaven Rotarians .

President Peter Newell handed over a cheque which is destined for the fund for the construction of a satellite renal dialysis unit at the Stonehaven hospital.

Mrs Audrey Laurie, who was in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for one of her three times a week dialysis sessions, said: “I’m delighted that local people are helping raise the money for the proposed new unit.

‘‘Not only will this make it much easier for people south of Aberdeen to get their treatment but it will relieve some of the pressure on the ARI unit.”

The ARI unit can treat 60 people in a 24-hour day and is working at maximum capacity. With numbers of dialysis patients steadily increasing, the new Stonehaven satellite unit would relieve the pressure on the Aberdeen facility.

Dr Ann Humphrey, who is spearheading the fundraising, was able to update Stonehaven Rotary Club on progress with the new unit.

Preliminary options have been worked up and these will be submitted to local people in the catchment area at a meeting in Stonehaven on May 28 to enable a final scheme to be selected.

It is hoped the design can then be put out to tender towards the end of the year, as over £400,000 has been raised so far out of a target total of £500,000.

This sum has been raised by numerous local groups in the area, and Dr Humphrey wanted to thank each and everyone for their efforts.

President Peter was also at pains to echo this support and to urge all groups to keep working hard to raise the balance of the money quickly, so that this very worthwhile and important project could be completed as quickly as possible.
