THE meeting is to discuss the application to rebuild the former Drumtochty Arms Hotel which was ripped apart by an explosion four years ago.

A controversial planning application is set to be discussed by councillors on the Kincardine and Mearns area committee next week.

The application for the site west of Granom in Auchenblae seeks permission for the erection of an hotel, cafe and shop, including manager’s flat, and associated access road and parking area.

The site has been the topic of much discussion in the village and at one point it was claimed it was “dividing” the community.

The report, which is set to go before the committee next Tuesday, recommends that councillors carry out a site visit to the proposed development before they make a decision.

The report states: “While the proposal is relatively modest in scale and represents a Local Development in terms of the hierarchy of development regulations, given the level of public interest, the planning service are minded to request that members agree to a site visit, prior to giving full consideration of the application at a future Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee.”

The application received 170 representations, both in support and objection, along with six requests to address the committee.

A decision is set to be made on the application at the area committee meeting in July.
