Jailbreak planned to raise funds for new defibrillator

A Johnshaven resident is taking part in a “Jailbreak” to raise funds for the town’s newly-formed first responder group.

Barry Ward is planning on travelling over 1200km from the Netherlands back home to Johnshaven on foot.

By on foot what he means is that he will start off walking and then try to make the journey by any means possible- looking to the generosity of others to help him- this will include trying to find a way to cross the channel.

Barry is planning on leaving Zierikzee, The Netherlands, around May 18 and he is looking for people to sponsor him along the way as he tries to make this massive journey by himself.

He is raising money for the Johnshaven First Responders Group, who have recently been set up to provide provide quick response basic life support until emergency services can get to the village.

The First Responders will be trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service and instructed through the 999 service to attend situations where lifesaving support can be administered until the arrival of an ambulance.

Barry is fundraising to buy a £1500 defibrillator.

The group has already received some of the money through generous personal donations and Barry saw a chance to raise the rest when he ended up working in the Netherlands this week.

Ha has asked people to dig deep and suport him on his long journey home as a defibrillator can literally save someones life.
