At the opening of this month’s meeting of Laurencekirk WRI, Mrs Vera McBain presented Mrs Jean Stuart with an Honorary Certificate in appreciation of nearly 50 years’ membership.
As a loyal member of the organisation, Jean first became a member of Marykirk institute, then for some time was a member of both Marykirk and Laurencekirk. For more than 20 years she has been a member of Laurencekirk only.
An active member, she has served on the committee, entering the monthly competitions which she won the annual trophy for several times. Jean also entered items at the Fettercairn Shows, and the Triennial shows at Stonehaven, winning prizes for her paintings, baking, and knitting. The ladies have expressed their pride in having her as their first honorary member.
After the monthly business, Mrs McBain introduced the speaker for the evening, Minorie Holmes, who showed how to put on a kimono. This was most interesting and fascinating.
Minorie also took along several different kimonos, explaining the different materials for different occasions and the many styles of sashes that can be worn.
