Three pullers from local tug o’ war club Kinneff TOW have enjoyed some recent success at both the Indoor UK Championships and the TTV Lagerweij 25th Anniversary Tournament.

Two pullers from Kinneff TOW, Stuart Millar and Ross Davidson won a place in the Scotland Men’s 600Kg National team at Belfast. The Scottish team finished 3rd overall after beating the local N. Ireland B team for the Bronze medal – which was presented to them by Dame Mary Peters (1972 Olympic Pentathlon Gold Medallist).

Three Kinneff pullers, Bill Meston, Stuart Millar and Ross Davidson also made the trip to the TTV Lagerweij 25th Anniversary Tournament in Renswoude, Holland, after receiving personal invitations from the Dutch Club. The pullers competed in various weight categories; finishing 6th in the Men’s 300Kg 4-aside pulling as Kinneff; 4th and narrowly missing out on a Bronze medal in the Men’s 560Kg 8-aside pulling in the TTV Lagerweij B team; 7th and 5th in the Men’s 640Kg as Heidenskip (Bill & Ross) and Monnickendam (Stuart) respectively; and 6th and 8th in the Men’s 600Kg as Mix Team (Ross & Bill) and Monnickendam (Stuart) respectively. There were 21 Clubs present at the tournament, most of which had A and B teams. Although the Scots didn’t finish in a medal winning position at the Anniversary Tournament, they did remarkably well to fit in with their adopted teams and to consistently finish in the top ten of each league in each weight category was no easy feat.

Kinneff have just started training for the upcoming outdoor season. If anyone would like to ‘take the strain’ and try out for the club, weekly training sessions are Monday and Thursdays, 19:30-21:00. Please contact Bill Meston on 01569 762489 for more details.
