Lathallan School in Johnshaven will once again continue to support an orphanage in South Africa with a number of events planned.

The school is in its fifth year of supporting the Vuyani Orphanage over 9,000 miles away.

Every year, a handful of Lathallan S6 pupils travel to Graaf Reinet, a town on South Africa’s beautiful Eastern Cape. There they spend time volunteering at the Samara Game Reserve, working on a wide range of land conservation projects.

During their time in South Africa, Lathallan pupils volunteer at the local Vuyani orphanage.

It is completely reliant on donations to look after their children; so Lathallan pupils have risen magnificently over the last few years to the challenge of raising money to help fund a number of improvements to the Orphanage.

This has made projects such as building a meeting room, maintaining play equipment and constructing a toilet block possible.

In 2016 the school are hoping to be able to continue the support of Vuyani with your help.

The school will be hosting a Ceilidh on March 9 at 7pm with tickets available at the school. Lathallan will also host a cycle-a-thon for 24 hours with pupils, staff and families all sharing in the challenge on March 20.

Ceilidh - March 9 at 7pm, Lathallan School. Tickets £3 each from the office. 01561 362220.

You can donate now to the orphanage at vuyani.lathallan.org.uk.
