Laurencekirk Gala Committee are holding an EGM after no new members were forthcoming at the AGM in November.

If no new committee is able to be formed, or if no other Laurencekirk group are willing to take on the responsibility for the bank account, insurance and storage of equipment then the outgoing committee will have no other option but to instigate the dissolving of the organisation.

Outgoing Chairperson Keith Moar explained: “We’re in the unfortunate position that all our post holders have had to take the hard decision to step down due to other commitments.

“This has been exacerbated by the fact that not a single person came forward to volunteer at the AGM.

“It’s a real shame given the number of people who enjoyed the events we held in 2015, and that a number of good causes benefitted from a total of £2,500 as a result of our successful year.”

Laurencekirk Gala struggled for volunteers back in 2013 with the event being cancelled that year.

The Kincardineshire Observer first reported at the start of December 2013 how the future of the popular event was in doubt as more volunteers were needed for the 2014 event.

A new committee stepped forward, with the last two years seeing a rejuvenated gala filled with events across Laurencekirk after months of planning. This included a pet show, ladies’ night, car treasure hunt, comedy night and the gala dance.

The EGM will be held at the Masonic Hall, Laurencekirk on Sunday, February 28, 7.15pm for 7.30pm prompt start and the outgoing committee would strongly encourage all who wish to see the continuance of the gala event to attend.
