Litter pick and Beach Clean

A group of children are planning on taking part in a litter Pick and Beach Clean on Stonehaven beach in May.

The South Deeside Under Fives are a small, independently run community based childcare charity located at the Maryculter Community Hall. They offer young children aged from birth to five years, from Aberdeen and the Shire, a friendly, engaging and safe introduction to live beyond their homes.

Each year the group takes part in a sponsorship event to raise funds for our own group. This year, they are organising a Litter Pick & Beach Clean at Stonehaven Beach over the weekend of May 26, to link in with the Keep Scotland Beautiful - National Spring Clean.

The group hopes that the vast majority of it’s members will don gloves, wellies and litter picks and come out and clean up the beach, which is a local beauty spot but can so often be spoiled by litter that is left strewn about, or washed up in the area. They aim to have at least 25 children and their families actively involved in the clean up over the weekend.

Tesco have also come on board and donated litter grabbers for the children to use at the event.

Shona Grimmer, Chair Person of the group said: “We like to have our children and families involved with community events and tackle community issues. Part of our ethos at the South Deeside Under Fives is to do as much as we can environmentally to lesson our impact on society, so this beach clean is an ideal form of fundraising for us. We are actively seeking a corporate champion for the event to help with sponsorship, so if there are any businesses who would like to get involved and perhaps offer a donation to boost our fundraising, we would welcome any support.”
